GBG is currently reading This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay.
Adam was a junior doctor who had to complete a diary to reflect on his patient experiences. When he left medicine and became a comedian he decided to use those diaries to write a book about the state of the NHS.
The Book is a fairly quick and easy read with some funny anecdotes and swearing. It gives real insight into the working life of a junior hospital doctor in the UK’s NHS, the long hours and underpaid staff, the difficult day to day decisions doctors have to make. I didn’t particularly like it to start with but it got better as it went along. The difficult decision he had to make in leaving medicine centred around a particularly harrowing incident explained at the end of the book.
